Elective 2: Distinctively Visual
Module A: Experience through Language
This module requires students to explore the uses of a particular aspect of language. It develops students' awareness of language and helps them understand how our perceptions of and relationships with others and the world are shaped in written, spoken and visual language.
Elective 2: Distinctively Visual
In their responding and composing students explore the ways the images we see and /or visualise in texts are created. Students consider how the forms and language of different texts create these images, affect interpretation and shape meaning. Students examine one prescribed text, in addition to other texts providing examples of the distinctively visual.
Analysis of rubric for key ideas:
An image is a particular aspect of language.
In this module you will explore the ways images are constructed and interpreted.
There are three key areas to explore:
1. How language (written, spoken, visual) creates images
2. How images shape and influence meaning
3. The cultural and literary significance of images, how the interpretation of an image may change over time.
Other ideas to consider might be:
1. What makes some images distinctive (memorable/influential)
2. What different types of textual forms/media use images in everyday life?
